Dental practices with specific queries about a patient or staff member can contact the Health Protection team. Contact details of your nearest Health Protection team can be found by entering your postcode in the relevant section on this website: https://www.gov.uk/health-protection-team
Patients who are unsure about whether they should be in quarantine/ self-isolation should be directed, in the first instance to NHS 111 for advice.
Any dental treatment should be, as far as possible, postponed until after the quarantine period. In the event of pain/ infection, pain-relief medication and/or other appropriate self-care should be advised. Definitive care can be provided at a dental practice after their quarantine period is ended.
If a dental examination is believed to be necessary, a domiciliary visit with full protective equipment (HAZMAT suits) will be needed. NHSE and PHE are in discussions with the Special Care/ Community Dental Services regarding how this could be delivered. A detailed clinical assessment will need to be undertaken before any dental visit is agreed. We believe that the need for a dental visit, at this point, is remote.
