The latest Primary Care Bulletin features information on the Golden Hello Recruitment Scheme:
Dental practices are already seeing the benefits of the dental recruitment incentive scheme, which was introduced in 2024 to encourage recruitment of dentists to areas that have historically struggled to recruit, attract new workforce to the NHS, and retain those who might have otherwise moved into private practice.
One dental practice in Bedfordshire said the scheme had helped them successfully recruit, with the incentive particularly helpful for rural practices like theirs. As a result of the scheme their practice has become more attractive to dentists and they’ve successfully recruited, which has led to their NHS waiting list being halved.
A ‘golden hello’ payment of £20,000 is being offered per dentist for up to 240 dentists, with payments phased over three years.
As dentistry is a national priority, ICBs are encouraged to continue to make use of the scheme into 2025/26, working with practices to support ongoing recruitment to posts.
