On behalf of Katy Kerr and H&IOW ICB:
Learning disability and autism training for clinical and administrative staff
Oliver McGowan was a young autistic man who died in hospital. Following his death, the Health and Care Act 2022 introduced a legal requirement for CQC-registered health and social care providers to ensure that their staff receive training on learning
disability and autism.
Part One which every member of staff should complete can be accessed on-demand via e-learning for healthcare free of charge.
BDA members can also access training via their CPD portal.
I have had agreement that members of the dental team can book onto the Part Two training set up by the H&IOW ICB for Primary Care.
This is for NHS staff.
Part Two – Tier one – (for those in admin roles) after completing the e-learning module then undertake a one-hour online interactive session. Book places for this via https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/865408549267?aff=oddtdtcreator Both parts must be completed to meet the statutory requirements.
Part Two – Tier two (for those in clinical roles) after completing the e-learning module then complete a one-day face-to-face training session. The face-to-face element is co-delivered by trainers with lived experience of learning disability and autism. Book places for this via: https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/oliver-mcgowan-mandatory-training-3588099?utm-campaign=social&utm-content=creatorshare&utm-medium=discovery&utm-term=odclsxcollection&utm-source=cp&aff=escb Both parts of the training must be completed within six months of each other.
