No Smoking Day 2022 (Wednesday, 9 March)
It’s no-smoking day today (March 9) and Jane Wilding, from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight’s Health & Wellbeing Support Service is on hand to offer tips for NHS colleagues who are looking to quit.
Jane says: “Medical professionals see the devastating effects of smoking first-hand, so it may seem surprising that some start or continue to smoke. There is some evidence to suggest that nursing and medical staff start smoking during their training, and the stressful working lives of many NHS doctors, nurses and others with long hours, no breaks, and staff shortages certainly have a role to play too.
“The reason NHS staff don’t quit is the same as for the general population – quitting smoking can be very challenging – cigarettes are very addictive, and self-control alone may not be enough to stop entirely. Help is available!”
You can book an appointment with a Health and Wellbeing Adviser via The People Portal: https://www.hiowpeople.nhs.uk/
