An LDC has alerted the BDA to a financial scam that is being reported by practices in Lancashire and South Cumbia in the North West region. To ensure that practices in other regions don’t fall victim, the BDA are sharing some details so that you can disseminate a warning to colleagues in your area.
The practice gets an email (seemingly from an associate) stating bank issues with a change of accounts and that their pay has been returned by the bank and could the PM send it to their “new” account. It is apparently very convincing.
Please do alert practices to this scam and highlight the need to protect themselves. The usual warnings about verifying directly, being cautious of urgency, checking email authenticity and reporting suspicious activity may be helpful reminders.
